The Toyota Avanza is an “entry-level MPV” jointly created by Toyota and its Daihatsu brand. It was previously put into production in China by FAW Jilin (later FAW Senya), but was subsequently discontinued after several twists and turns, and is now aimed at the Southeast Asian markets of Indonesia and Thailand.

The new generation Toyota Avanza

Recently, Toyota unveiled the new generation Avanza in Indonesia, which features a large-mouth front grille shape and the Toyota family’s signature hover screen inside, and continues to have a seven-seat layout. For reference, the Toyota Avanza starts at just IDR 206.2 million (from approximately RMB 90,000) in the local market. In the Chinese car market where family MPVs are on the rise, will this model attract more attention from users if it comes to China?

The new-generation Toyota Avanza can be seen as the third generation of the car, based on Daihatsu’s DNGA architecture and featuring a front-wheel drive layout for the first time. It features a large trapezoidal grille in the latest Toyota family style, with LED headlamp clusters and an overall front-end style similar to that of the Toyota RAV4 Rongfa in the domestic market. As a family MPV, the car continues to feature side opening doors, an L-shaped tail lamp combination at the rear and a trapezoidal profile trim in the licence plate frame area.

Toyota Veloz

Similar to the Elfa (Photo|Configuration|Inquiry) and Wilfa, Toyota has created a dual-front version of the car, with the sporty model being the Veloz, which features a mesh grille at the front and through-headlights at the rear. In terms of dimensions, the new generation Toyota Avanza measures 4395/1730/1665 mm in length, width and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm, which is 205 mm longer than its predecessor.
