Most of the moms working in the kitchen ignore the safety tips, but this shall be the case. Following are some of the most important kitchen safety tips, that shall be followed by women religiously to make a kitchen safer than other parts of the home:

Contents

1.      Install safety latches and lock the cabinets or drawers:

The first important rule for a safer kitchen is the locks of your drawers or cabinets. You cannot leave the knives and forks unlatched. Make sure that the sharp items such as knives or other cutlery items are safely stored.

These safety measurements are important especially if you have growing kids at home. When children grow older, they love to explore the things around them, they will begin to open cupboards and drawers and look inside.

It makes it important to install safety latches on all the cupboards, especially those that hold the knives or heavy pots and pans so that children cannot access them. Besides sharp cutlery items, you can also store harsh cleaning chemicals and other medications in a latched cupboard, so that these cannot be reached by children.

Also never let your children play around in the kitchen. Keep the children busy in their playroom instead of handing over the kitchen to them.

2.      Dress up properly while cooking:

Put on protective clothing. Put on shoes that cover your feet. Heels or sandals are highly discouraged. Avoid wearing loose-fitting clothing. Remove any jewelry, such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and other ornaments.

Knot your hair before cooking. Do not let the hair get inside the food you are preparing. Wear a clean head covering like a ball cap, bandana, or a chef’s hat. Tie back your long hair, then cover your head with a clean head covering.

3.      Maintain the stove properly:

Keeping your children away from the stove is critical, but it can also be dangerous even when you are not cooking. If the stove is not properly maintained, there is a risk of a gas leak, which is extremely dangerous.

You must inspect your stove for proper operation and call someone in to perform maintenance if you suspect there is a problem. Install a stove cover as well as safety covers on the knobs so your child cannot use the stove without your supervision.

4.      Never compromise on the cleanliness of your kitchen:

The cleanliness of your kitchen is important in any case. There is no compromise over it.  Cleanliness is critical to minimize the risk of injury in the kitchen, but it is also important to keep the kitchen clean from germs and bacteria that may cause illness.

Raw meat, for example, can cause food poisoning if not properly cleaned up after cooking. Bacteria will accumulate over time, increasing the likelihood of your children becoming ill, which is why you must follow proper kitchen cleaning procedures.

Always clean up after yourself and give your kitchen a thorough cleaning at least once or twice a week.

5.      You should know how to put fire:

Each year, approximately 172,000 residential cooking fires occur in the United States, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Cooking is the leading cause of fires and injuries in our homes. Always keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it so you can act quickly.

Learn how to handle various types of fires, such as grease and electric fires. Never use water to put them out. Instead, use baking soda or a pan cover to extinguish them. A fire in your oven should be extinguished with an extinguisher, whereas a microwave fire can be extinguished simply by turning off the faulty appliance and keeping the door closed.

Final thoughts!

A kitchen is a place where all the delicious recopies are made, but at the same time, it is also one of the dangerous places. Follow the above-mentioned kitchen-safety tips to stay safe while working in the kitchen and trying different recipes.
